Building apprenticeship with awards scheme

-

As National Apprenticeship Week is in full swing, Sunderland-based award-winning training company JB Skills Training has launched its very own way to give accolade to those in the region and further afield that dedicate themselves to apprentices and apprenticeships.

To do this the company has launched its Apprentice of the Month and Employer of the Month schemes. These will build up over 2018, culminating in a celebratory event at the end of the year with 12 apprentices and 12 employers being recognised.

The first apprentice of the month winner named is 23-year-old Liam Howes who started an apprenticeship in Health and Social Care in July 2016. The first named Employer of the month is AP Taylor.

Liam works for St Stephens Court In Newcastle, within the Challenging Behaviour Unit supporting young people get into independent living. He has studied for his Level 3 Health and Social Care. He said:

“Doing my Apprenticeship with JB Skills was a great experience. My tutor Gemma had so much knowledge and skills to help me with my work, which made everything easier. She explained from the outset on how to use examples from my current role as a support worker.

“Through the process of the work and work booklets, JB Skills actually made me realise how far I had come in my first job in care. I could use so many examples that I had experience with already and I felt much more confident and willing to try new things.

“I currently still work at the residential home for learning difficulties, autism and challenging behaviour. I love working here as a support worker and I myself am supported within my role.”

Since completing his Level 3 Apprenticeship Liam has decided to join an access course to Nursing and Midwifery. He is enjoying college at the moment and hopes to join Northumbria University in September.

Employer of the Month is AP Taylor, a company where a range of training in management and warehousing has been delivered by JB Skills Training.

The company, based in Dunstable, offers a full, bespoke returns solution for retailers and manufacturers in the electrical industry. Kieran Monger, warehouse manager, has just completed his management Level 3. He said:

“Our time with JB Skills was a positive and effective experience from day one. The training identified and provided was imperative to providing internal CPD to fulfill employer and employee ambitions. As a direct result of the training AP Taylor has prospered in improved KPI’s, increased productivity, increased self motivation levels and more effective team work.”
