Wearside student’s artwork is in the frame at show house

-

A Sunderland student has made a splash with his artwork.

Jamie Henderson, 17, won an art competition run by housebuilder, Barratt Homes North East.

The Sunderland College student was crowned the winner of the themed art contest, and visited the Teal Park Farm development in Washington to see his framed work hung up and on display to the public.

Barratt Homes challenged BTEC Level 3 Art and Design students to create a piece of artwork that included the colour teal, tying in with the development’s name, to promote local art talent in the area.

Students could choose their own subject, use any materials, and were encouraged to be as creative as possible.

Jamie’s winning mixed media piece was created with acrylic paint and water coloured pencils, depicting a floral woman with orange and teal two-toned hair set on a brush-marked teal background.

In addition to having his artwork displayed, Jamie also received a £100 voucher to go towards art supplies for his future studies.

Ashlea Wright, sales manager at Teal Park Farm, said: “We knew that Jamie’s piece would look fantastic in our show home and it was clear that he had put a lot of effort into the bold artwork.

“We were impressed by all of the entries that we received and it made choosing a winner a challenge, however, the bright and contemporary feel of Jamie’s work really caught our eye.”

She said they would like to thank the college and students for their hard work.
