Seaburn Dene lads into County finals

Seaburn Dene Primary School have marched through to the Durham Schools County Fivea-side finals after an unbeaten performanc­e in their semis this week.

The 213-pupil school were crowned McCauliffe Trophy winners, for the first time in their history, last month (feb) after overpoweri­ng Hill View Juniors 5-0 in the city final, goals from Joseph Barnes (3), Thomas McKnight (1) and Konstandin­os Pavlou at Goals on Bede Campus.

The Seaburn youngsters squad took on other North Durham group winners at the Louisa Centre in Stanley on Tuesday, emerging unbeaten to reach the Darlington finals later this month.

In their first game, Seaburn drew 0-0 with St Joseph RCVA, Stanley, before beating Lambton Primary, Washington 1-0 (Joseph Barnes.) They claimed 2-0 win over St George’s CofE, Darlington (Joseph Barnes, 2) and a 1-0 victory over Neville’s Cross Primary, Durham City (Joseph Barnes.)

PE co-ordinator James Ashton said, “At Seaburn Dene, we are passionate about all sports and this group of children have worked really hard to get to this stage. Our parents have provided fantastic support and it’s a testimony to the resilience of our pupils that they continue to perform so well, while demonstrat­ing a fantastic attitude.”

Teacher and coach Richard Traves added: “They have made outstandin­g progress down to their dedication and commitment to football and sport, in general.”
