Pupil referral unit a success

A Sunderland pupil referral unit has been praised by Ofsted.

Inspectors from the education watchdogs said the Key Stage 1 unit, based at Valley Road Primary School, continues to be good.

In a letter to the headteacher, following a recent visit, the inspector, said: “You and your leadership team have a clear vision for improvement, which staff understand and support.

“This, combined with the support and challenge from your governing body, is ensuring that you continually take action to improve the school.

“Children receive excellent support as they learn through a broad and balanced curriculum. Children enjoy attending school.

“Parents and carers agree that their children want to be in school. They are positive about ways in which their children’s attitudes have improved since joining the school.”

The inspector said the behaviour of youngsters throughout the school is exemplary.
