Adkins thrilled with ‘magnificent’ Hull
Hull City boss Nigel Adkins hailed his men after they eased their Championship relegation fears with a thrilling 4-3 win over Norwich.
In a game which featured four penalties, two for each side, Hull moved six points clear of the drop zone thanks to strikes from Jackson Irvine, Abel Hernandez (2) and impressive loanee Harry Wilson.
Adkins said: “I thought the players were magnificent.
“We’ve gone behind but we’ve responded, we’ve kept our composure. Great credit to the players.
“It’s a fantastic performance in my eyes, the character shown by the players having gone 3-1 down.
“It’s a big three points.”
James Maddison converted two penalties in a first-half hat-trick for Norwich past recalled keeper David Marshall. Both managers were bewildered by the second spotkick award for Hull, when ex-Sunderland midfielder Sebastian Larsson’s freekick was headed clear, with players, spectators and managers unclear as to what the infringement was that the official had spotted. Reading, with just one win in 16, are level with Hull after a 2-2 draw at home to Leeds.
“I think it was a deserved point,” said manager Jaap Stam. “If you look at how we played in the first half, we were very good at times.
“We made the right decisions in what to do and when and how to go forward.
“We scored the first goal and created another couple of very good opportunities. They were 100 per cent chances and we needed to score them. When you can do that, then it’s a totally different game.”
