Change can happen
I read George Howe’s, Conservative Councillor for Fulwell, letter recently and have respect for his commitment over the years but really don’t see how his melancholic list of woe is helpful to residents in Fulwell and Seaburn.
We face a dysfunctional Labour council that brings national shame on this area.
Ofsted informs us that children in care are being put in serious danger and adults in education are being let down.
You have to ask, what are constituents getting for voting Conservative in Fulwell and Seaburn?
On more everyday issues we are being let down again, Sunderland is the litter capital of the UK and famous for its rat population.
Both of these problems apply to Fulwell and Seaburn as much as the rest of the city, but here we have the gloomy ramblings of our councillors rather than a vocal campaign for change.
The Seaburn seafront redevelopment has come to a standstill after the Siglion/ Carillion debacle. Now we hear that we could lose the university-owned playing fields to more housing on top of those being built around the former Seaburn centre.
These are the most pressing issues for people and what does our local councillor do? Where are the calls for change?
Contrast this with the three young, recently elected Lib Dem councillors in Millfield, Sandhill and Pallion.
How have they managed to snatch seats in former safe Labour strongholds?
They have the energy and optimism, which is lacking in Sunderland local politics. Engaging with the community and sharing a message that “things don’t have to be like this”.
Niall Hodson, Stephen O’Brien and Martin Haswell have proved that Wearside Lib Dems can win in any area of the city and are determined to bring about change.
We desperately need this mentality to take hold all over this city, especially in Seaburn and Fulwell. Malcolm Bond, Fulwell and Seaburn Lib Dems
