Emily is a little life-saver

- By Richard Ord

Step forward and take a bow, little Wearside lifesaver Emily Morrison.

The four-year-old is being hailed a hero after keeping a cool head when her mum Louise Rush suddenly collapsed and had a seizure at home.

The Silksworth youngster knew exactly what to do, contacting dad Stephen at work, dialling 999, then talking to the emergency operator and finally letting paramedics into the house.

And during the ordeal the calm little girl managed to look after 15-month-old sister Rosa and six-weekold brother Charlie – even giving the baby his bottle to settle him down.

Louise, who has now been diagnosed with epilepsy, suffers from endometriosis and has fainted previously, but this was the first time she had suffered a full seizure.

She said: “I have fainted a few times before, so Emily has seen that happen in the past and that is why she knew she had to contact her dad, but I have never had anything like this happen before.

“She did everything they told her to do to make sure I was still breathing.

“I was having a seizure and she told them I was shaking, then she opened the door to let the crew in.

“And she looked after her two siblings as well.

“I could not believe what she has done – I am so proud of her.

“We have told her before about what she ought to do if I am taken ill, but she has far exceeded that.”

The 26-year-old mum is now recovering in Sunderland Royal Hospital and looking forward to getting home.

Sheadded:“Emilyisenjoyingalltheattentionandrightly so as it’s well-deserved.”

The youngster is looking forward to a restaurant meal as a treat when her mum gets home.

She definitely deserves it.
