A toddler group meets in St Mary & St Peter’s Community Project on Wednesdays from 9.30am to 1pm (termtime only). Sessions cost £1.50, under one-year-old free. No need to book just go along. Exercise sessions are held in St Mary & St Peter’s Community Project on Mondays from 10am to 10.45am, Tuesdays from 9.45am to 10.30am. Sessions cost £2 and include the use of easyline machines and circuit-based workouts. Do you enjoy gardening and have few hours to spare, St Mary & St Peter’s Community Project is looking for volunteers to help maintain the community garden. Volunteers meet every Monday from 9.30am to noon. If you would like to help then go along on a Monday to speak to volunteers and enjoy an cup of tea or coffee. Humbledon Methodist Church, Ettrick Grove, hosts a number of weekly activities including: Mondays Brownies 6.30pm; Tuesdays Weight Watchers from 6pm; Wednesdays Open Door from 11am to 1pm, tea and coffee and toast also light lunches served; Thursdays, Slimming World from 5pm to 7pm. Holy week services are: A time for prayer and reflection at Ewesley Road Methodist Church, 6pm on Thursday, March 27, also at Ewesley Road at 7pm on Maundy Thursday a service led by the Rev Rosemary Nash; Humbledon Methodist Church, Good Friday, a service at 11am will be led by Ian Andrew; Morning worship at Humbledon on Easter day at 10.45am will be again led by, Ian Andrew, followed by communion at noon.

Children who attend Happy Shack enjoyed a great day out recently. Holiday care at Happy Shack (after-school and holiday care), situated in the Guide Hall on Front Street in East Boldon, looks after children, from three years to 11, from 8am to 6pm. Prices upon request. Check Facebook for more details or speak to Annemarie or Linda at the Shack. All are welcome. Boldon School on New Road in Boldon Colliery will hold a Summer Fair in July (further details will be published later). There will be stalls available to small businesses and crafts and hobbyists. Contact the school for details. Two hundred and thirty seven volunteers have so far been recruited to enable Boldon and Cleadon Community Library (Charity No 1177203) continue a library service for the community in the present East Boldon Library building. All volunteers should expect to receive informatio­n over the next couple of weeks asking them for details about which roles they wish to volunteer for and days/times when they are available. A website and Facebook page are under developmen­t and asset transfer is also under way. Fundraisin­g and sponsorshi­ps are being developed and a scheme for local people to donate to the library will be announced soon. Committee members recent visit to Jesmond Library was very interestin­g and they plan to visit Fulwell Library in the near future. St George’s spring trip to Woodhorn Colliery Museum and Morpeth will leave on Friday, April 6, at 9.30am from outside St George’s Church on Front Street in East Boldon. The cost is £18 (to be paid by March 29). If interested contact Barbara Collins on 0191 536 3162. Local Folk Group Seganainm will play at The Alberta Club (near Jarrow Metro Station) on March 29. The group will host the Folk Club at The Grey Horse in East Boldon on Thursday, April 5, at 7.30pm and at Boldon Cricket Club on Sunderland Road at 8pm on Thursday, April 12. All welcome, both events are admission free. The last Boldon Churches Together Midday short Lent Service followed by a light lunch will take place at The Sacred Heart RC Church in New Road in Boldon Colliery at noon this Thursday. Donations in aid of Christian Aid and CAFOD. The main Easter Roman Catholic Triduum Services for Boldon will this year be celebrated in The Sacred Heart’s sister parish of St Oswald in Whiteleas. Holy Thursday Mass of the Lord’s Supper will take place at 7pm and Good Friday at 3pm. Celebratio­n of the Lord’s Passion and The Holy Saturday Easter Vigil at 7pm There will be a short service of Stations of the Cross at The Sacred Heart, New Road, Boldon Colliery, on Good Friday at 6pm and Easter Holy Mass on Easter Sunday at 9.30am. East Boldon Methodist Church, on the corner of Bridle Path in East Boldon, and Cleadon Methodist Church will hold a joint Holy Communion Service on Maundy Thursday at Whitburn Methodist Church at 7pm. The Good Friday Service will take place at East Boldon at 10am and the Easter Sunday Service will be at East Boldon at 9.30am after which the beautiful floral Easter Crucifix celebratin­g the Risen Christ, which is annually put together by the ladies of the church, will be erected in the garden in front of the church on Front Street after the 9.30am service. The Internatio­nal Committee of the Rotary Club of Sunderland met this month, chaired by St Michael’s resident Dr Sam Raman. Recommenda­tions were made to donate to the Rotary Jaipur Limb Project in India. This charity was establishe­d 32 years ago by British Rotarians and supplies prosthetic limbs in India and Africa. The club also supported the Baale Mane girl’s orphanage near Bangalore in India. This project supports 50 abandoned or disadvanta­ged girls providing a happy, healthy and secure home environmen­t. Water filters will be sent to Nepal and Bhutan following the recent disasters. The Sunderland Club has donated more than 2,450
