40 new jobs in store as Lidl gets green light for store
A new Lidl supermarket is set to be built on The Peel Retail Park, in Washington, after Sunderland City Council planning officers granted permission.
Work is due to start on site within months, with a view to opening the store next summer. Up to 40 new jobs are set to be created.
Lidl UK’s regional head of property, David Murphy, said: “We could not be more delighted to have received planning permission, and look forward to seeing construction commence. I’d like to take this opportunity to thank the local community for their continued support.”
Roger Wheeldon, director of retail development at Peel Land and Property, which owns and manages the Retail Park, said: “The opening of Lidl in 2019 is set to further increase footfall to the Retail Park, driving repeat visits from a loyal audience.”
