Another false dawn for Vaux?
Vaux and false dawns are comfortable bedfellows.
The history of this controversial site is littered with them.
We seem forever to be taking one step forward and two steps back like drunken sailor on shoreleave.
But hope springs eternal and we have got to admire the positive words of new city council leader Coun Harry Trueman.
And for city leaders, singing the praises of the Vaux development has been a thankless task.
But it’s important to remind ourselves of the aim of this development and the hard work that has gone into turning this sow’s ear into a silk purse.
Coun Trueman said: “Vaux is a site we have fought to deliver.”
“We know it will bring about a step-change in our city centre and, teamed with other city developments, we are all pleased to be getting back on-track.” Too true. There were real concerns when Carillion collapsed, but things have turned round pretty quickly.
It’s testament, perhaps, to the determination to succeed being shown on all sides.
We have to trust Coun Trueman when he says, there has been a lot of work behind the scenes to get the new tenders drafted.
The development is key part of the city’s future regeneration and economic prosperity.
We have seen some significant strides forward in the surrounding area, and if we can get this right, those false dawns will be consigned to history.
Coun Trueman described the project as a described it as a flagship site and a ‘once in a lifetime’ opportunity.
Here’s hoping it’s in our lifetime!
