Pounder in late to seal Colliery joy

-

Easington Colliery edged home 1-0 against Billingham Town in last night’s Ebac Northern League Division Two clash at Welfare Park.

After Town hit the post in the first minute, Colliery had most of the early play, with Jack Pounder, in particular, catching the eye and involved in most of the play.

Liam Cooke was also playing well and he had two efforts at goal, but they didn’t threaten visiting goalkeeper Liam Gibbs.

On the half hour, Ash Lavan had a good chance for the visitors, but he mistimed his shot and it flew wide.

Attheotherend,Pounder had a shot charged down and he then had another effort deflected for a corner, but the teams went in 0-0 at half-time.

In the second period, Elliott Beddow went close for Town, but his volley at the far post went wide. Cooke fired over soon after, from a good position, before Lavan somehow missed the net from only six yards out on 55 minutes.

Pounder went close with another shot and he narrowly blasted the ball over the bar before Lewis Green went close as Easington piled on the pressure.

On 82 minutes, the deadlock was finally broken, when great work from Liam Adamson found Pounder, who smashed the ball past Gibbs.

With three minutes left, Lavan had a great chance to equalise, but he dragged his shot wide of the post.
