Semi exit’s hard to take for Heed star Barrow

-

Gateshead’s Wembley dream is over – and it was a ‘tough one to take’ for goalscorer Scott Barrow.

Barrowhitamemorable equaliser in Saturday’s Buildbase FA Trophy semifinal second leg against Bromley.

But Heed, managed by Steve Watson, could not find a second goal to take the tie to extra time.

Gateshead led in the first leg bust lost 3-2, so the loss of the first goal in the return, a hapless Fraser Kerr own goal, was a big setback.

Barrow rallied Gateshead with a long-range half-volley into the top corner on 69 minutes, but the crowd of 2,264 saw the visitors hold firm to clinch a 4-3 aggregate victory.

Barrow told gatesheadfc.com: “It’s a tough one to take. It was a hard game where they made things very difficult for us.

“The early goal didn’t help because it meant they could just sit back and frustrate us.

“Everyoneisdevastated. I’m gutted. We worked so hard to get here, and we all wanted to get to Wembley.

“Unfortunately, it just didn’t happen and all you can now sayis ‘well done to Bromley’ and good luck to them in the final.”

On his goal, Barrow added: “I just brought it down and it bounced up nicely for me to shoot.

“It’s one of the sweetest striker I’ve hit in my career and I was obviously delighted at the time, because it put us in a good position.

“We fancied our chances of getting another, but it just wasn’t to be.”
