Hetton Independent Methodist Church had the privilege of hosting a team of young people from The First Baptist Church, Tuscaloosa, Alabama. Team Ten, a group of nine young people and a youth leader, started on Sunday, March 11, by leading the church services and working with the Sunday School. They then spent four days working with local schools and visiting other venues to share their true meaning of Easter and their culture. They also hosted an American quiz night and a service about the true meaning of Easter at the church. The church also shared its culture with a visit to Durham cathedral and Tommy at Seaham. They sampled a Sunday roast beef dinner and fish and chips and mushy peas. Thanks go to everyone who hosted and transported the team during the week and to the schools for welcoming them so warmly. The team commented on how well behaved the children were at school and how warmly they have been welcomed to the North East.

Members of the wider school community are invited to Hylton Castle Primary

School’s first Community Events Group meeting, which will be held on Thursday, April 19, at 3.30pm. This group is being set up to develop ideas to encourage the community to work together in ways that will support the school and the local area. This could involve setting up activity groups or events that people would like to see taking place in the community. These events could become regular activities in the calender year, and can be organised for children, adults and families. If you are interested, pop along for a chat and a coffee. Children may accompany parents to the meeting. It is hoped that both adults and children will become regular members of the group.
