All hail out NHS heroes

- By Richard Ord

When the idea of a National Health Service was first mooted it was considered a simple proposition, but wildly ambitious.

Seventy years later and, while it continues to vex the warring political parties, there is possibly no other public service so fiercely protected and almost universally loved by the British public.

That it featured prominently in the opening ceremony of the London Olympics alongside industrial revolution and the invention of the internet was no surprise here (though it baffled many overseas).

Though not without its problems, it is a source of huge pride to our nation and the local community, as our Best of Health of Awards so clearly demonstrate.

Once again we have been inundated with nominations for local heroes in many different areas of health and wellbeing.

Our awards are playing a part in the 70th year anniversary of the NHS, giving you the opportunity to sing the praises of those fabulous workers.

But as the judges deliberate over the winners, we want you to keep up the good work and tell us just why you love the NHS so much.

We will hail the heroes, but we want to hear your stories.

Do you owe your life to the NHS? Many millions over the years most certainly do.

Have you repaid your faith in the NHS by embarking on a fundraising drive?

Did the treatment a friend or family member received at the hands of the NHS change lives for the better.

We want to hear your stories and share the love for the NHS at 70.

Simple, wildly ambitious ... but it works for us! Get in touch today.
