Don’t moan, help out
In reply to” Old exhibits magnificent “letter from Alan “The Quill” Vincent (March 28) about the museums in Sunderland, he states “thank goodness for the Monkwearmouth Station Museum although it has been a few months since I visited”
If he was up to date he would have known that the Station Museum closed in March 2017. That is 12 months ago now.
It is going to be reopened sometime in the summer as the Fans Museum.
It is the brain-child of Michael Ganley as a method of showing his many items of football memorabilia.
Some of us have voluntarily given up our time to scrape and sand down walls, remove various items and getting it ready to be decorated, carpeted etc.
We are now nearing the stage where we can start painting.
Not only is it going to be a football museum but there will be a café, bar and shop.
It is also going to be a community museum catering for different types of groups meeting there.
We also go out to various places with our exhibits.
The ethos of the museum is not just to look at exhibits but to try on strips etc, which have all been worn by players in games.
It will be a hands-on museum.
How many of them have you visited?
Instead of writing letters complaining about our city, why don’t you come along and volunteer to help?
You never know, you might just enjoy it.
