Wheatley so close to second title

Champions Wheatley Hill WMC edged closer to retaining their title by edging out Farringdon Detached 3-2.

Karl Garside, Shaun Jackson and sub Joe Smith did the damage, with Perri Agnew and Jack Barnes replying.

Robert Mawson stood out for Hill, with Ross Antliff best for Farra.

Wheatley’s win means that second-top Horden Community Welfare and only West Auckland Tunns can possibly pip the current leaders.

Hall Farm Glasshus saw their hopes of reaching the South Durham Bowl final dashed by a 3-1 semifinal defeat to Crook and District League side Shildon Railway.

Lee Pearce struck the opener for Glasshus, but Declan Sproston, Callum Oldfield and Terry Gillan guided Railway through.

Kyle Young stood out for Hall Farm.

West Auckland Tunns reached the Auckland Charity Cup final thanks to a 4-2 semi-final success at Middlestone Moor Masons Arms, from the Crook and District League.

Anthony Philipson, Stephen Brunskill, Brian Bradley and Wayne Whitfield did the damage for West Auckland, coming back brilliantly from 2-0 down, with Dale Dunn man of the match.

Jarrow Reserves were crushed 10-1 by Crook and District League side Newton Aycliffe Navy Club in the Washington Aged Peoples Trophy.

Anth Harrison, Charlie Fowler and Jake Kane all hit trebles for the rampant visitors.
