The Friends of Houghton Parish Church Trust continue the celebrations of their 25th anniversary in St Michael and All Angels’ Church at 7.30pm on Monday, May 7, with the musical Life In A Pit Village about typical life when the mines were thriving. The Rotary Club held its annual St George’s Day dinner in the Chilton Country Hotel, with a good attendance of members, family, friends and visitors from neighbouring Rotary Clubs for an excellent traditional meal. Entertainment, with suitable music for the occasion, was provided by Houghton Brass Band, and a hilarious sketch Waiting for George, performed by members Graham McGrath and Geoff Pratt. At Houghton Older People’s Enterprise in the Methodists Church hall at 1pm on Thursday, entertainment will be provided by singer Rob Dennie, who also tells funny stories.
