Ashbrooke Colts close super year on real high

Sunderland Under-18s Colts ended a thrilling season on a high note with a 55-7 demolition of County Cup finalists Darlington Mowden Park at Hill View.

It was a magnificen­t performanc­e against a Mowden team who have been a thorn in Sunderland’s side for many years.

The Ashbrooke youngsters made a great start as Jack Hadlington steamrolle­red his way over in the first minute for an unconvertd try.

Louie Groark soon added a second in the corner, following a fine break from Dean Edmundson.

The relentless pressure continued with Devrim Koca finding himself out on the wing but cutting a excellent line inside to evade tacklers and increase the lead to 170, helped by an excellent Holder conversion.

Mowden hit back with a period of sustained pressure, but Sunderland held out with ferocious tackling, and a superb break from inside his own half from Groark saw him add another try, converted by Holder, to make it 24-0,

Mowden’s half-time team talk had them inspired on the restart and they bagged a really good converted try, but Sunderland responded instantly as Dean Edmundson accelerate­d into the corner.

Sunderland’s dominance continued with Brad Wall immense. A training ground inside ball move saw Fletcher Jackson score under the posts, with Holder’s conversion seeing Sunderland 36-7 up.

A superb offload from Ben Hutchinson, while being tackled, released Edmundson to score a convertedt­ry,withanothe­r good break being finished off by Farai Chickumbri­ke asSunderla­nd reached the half-century mark.

The Wearsiders had the last word with another try from Dean Edmundson, after lovely interplay with Chickumbri­ke, making it 55-7.

Sunderland can be proud of their efforts this season, with more than 1,000 points scored and a top-three finish in the league.
