Joy for West End

-

Sunderland West End beat Silksworth CW 2-0 to lift the TWR Shipowners Charity Cup.

They took the lead when Brad Forster headed home, and sealed the triumph when they were awarded a penalty - Forster making no mistake from the spot.

In the Ebac Northern League Division One, Seaham Red Star travelled to North Shields and were hammered 8-0.

They went a goal down after just five minutes when Ryan Carr headed home from a corner.

On 25 minutes, a great cross found Ben Harmison, who neatly headed home the second.

Carr and Harmison went on to complete their hattricks and further goals from Matthew Cornish and Dean Holmes ended a miserable afternoon for Red Star.

Ryhope CW journeyed to Dunston UTS and won 4-2.

They took the lead on 35 minutes when Ben Riding scored the opener, but a Jake Stafford penalty levelled things up.

Two goals in five minutes put Ryhope on top and with two minutes left, Matthew Weirs made it 4-1. Callum Elliott pulled one back just before the end.

Guisborough Town gave the newly-crowned champions Marske United the ‘guard of honour’ as the teams came out.

The match finished 1-1. Marske were awarded a penalty early on, but Joshua Rowbotham missed it.

With 20 minutes left, United took the lead through Glen Butterworth but the Priorymen rallied and equalised two minutes later through Mark Robinson.

Whitley Bay hosted Newcastle Benfield and lost 3-1. Paul Brayson put the home side ahead after just two minutes but Callum Johnston equalised from close range before half-time.

Jake Orrell headed home in the 77th minute to give Benfield the lead again and Orrell wrapped the game up with his second, two minutes from time.

Hebburn Town were promoted from Division Two after a 2-0 win over visiting Chester-le-Street.

They needed a win to guarantee promotion, or hope other results went their way.

On 44 minutes, Hebburn took the lead when Mechack Kanda scored from close range, following a corner.

Paul Chow made it 2-0 on the hour mark to clinch promotion.

Whickham had to win to stand any chance of promotion when they welcomed Heaton Stannington.

Results went their way and a 2-0 win was enough to get them promoted.

They went ahead after 28 minutes when Steven Aiston fired the ball home. On 70 minutes, Kyle Wharton made it 2-0 - and the celebrations began once news came through that Northallerton Town had only drawn at Thornaby.

Northallerton needed to win but went two down to Thornaby after goals from Daniel Chapman and Joe Scaife-Wheatley.

Chapman was sent off though, and Richard Walker pulled one back with a penalty.

Matty Crossen then scored to make it 2-2, but Northallerton could not find a winner and missed out on promotion on goal difference.

Durham City and Tow Law Town played out a 2-2 draw. The Lawyers went ahead through a third minute effort from Adam Knowles, but Callum Smith equalised on 21 minutes.

Just before half-time, Dean Thexton gave Town the lead again, but after 69 minutes, Chris Pattison made it 2-2.

Bedlington Terriers hosted champions Blyth AFC and the home side gave them the ‘guard of honour’ as the teams entered the field. A single goal from Robert Taylor after 20 minutes, sealed the 1-0 win for the champions.
