Alex stars as Lyons grab glory

Hetton Lyons Under-15s hoisted the Glenn Robinson Memorial Trophy thanks to a 34-run win over Chesterle-Street in the postponed 2017 final at Philadelph­ia.

Lyons made 106-8, batting first, before bowling Chester out for 72, with Alex Dreze (3-16) the pick of the bowlers.

In the Durham Cricket Board leagues, Sunderland finished seven-wicket victors at Gateshead Fell in their Don Lyons Memorial Trophy Group One tie.

Ellis Warren (22) and Josh Strassheim (23) led Fell to 91-5 in 20 overs, with wickets for Roma Bozyk, Thomas Bowman, Matthew Heywood and Joe Defty.

Heywood (23no), Liam Potts (17) and Kyle Hutchinson (32no)then steered the Ashbrooke side to victor.

In the same group, Boldon proved too strong for Hylton, who were dismissed for 17 in 16.1 overs as Jacob McCord (3-1) and Euan Latimer (2-2) led the bowling attack. McCord then hit 12 not out as Boldon won easily.

In Group Two, Whitburn beat Felling (68-6) by five wickets and Ben Scott’s 49, plus 35 from Josh Leslie, helped South Shields (144-2) to sink Marsden (41-9) by 103 runs. Daniel Tudor hit 14 for Marsden, as Leslie, Sameer Awan and James Hutchinson all struck twice.

In the Central Division’s Ken Ferguson Memorial Trophy, Washington beat Sacriston by five wickets.

Alfie McKie hit 16 in Sacriston’s 40 all out as George Thompson and Thomas Lander both struck twice. Cameron Longstaff’s 16 helped Washington home, with Jordan Lumley taking 2-1. Burnmoor conceded their game at Eppleton.

In Group Two, Chesterle-Street were 67-run winners over Durham City.

Robbie Dawson (51) and Lewis Kilkenny (20) topscored in Chester’s 113-6, with Hamish Barry snatching 3-3. City were bowled out for 46 in reply, as Matthew Page and Guy Robson both struck twice.

Hetton Lyons’ game against Philadelph­ia was abandoned because of an injury to a Lyons player.

Ryhope ran out 10-wicket winners against Dawdon (50) in their W.A. Bennett Cup Group One tie.

In Group Two, Peterlee beat Easington by 99 runs. Jack Sullivan (46), Sam Garraghan (33) and James Garraghan (44no) starred.
