Why Jack is the lad for Cats

- By Richard Ord

The more we hear of Jack Ross the more we like the sound of him.

While he’s far from the big name many fans would want taking the hotseat at the Stadium of Light, there’s definitely a feeling the St Mirren boss would bring a fresh perspective to the club’s fresh start.

Of course, with Sunderland, nothing’s ever simple.

And, as we went to press, the deal to bring Ross to Sunderland was close, though not quite done and dusted.

Should, as we expect, he be named manager in the next 24 hours, he appears to have the tools to do a job at Sunderland.

Okay, so he hasn’t managed in the top flight, but it’s important to remember, he won’t be dealing in top flight issues.

The fans may not like it, but they have to accept that third tier football is where the club will be next season.

Ross’s experience may not be extensive, but it’s in the right realm.

He took over at St Mirren when the club was mired in relegation trouble and couldn’t buy a win for love nor money. Sound familiar?

Ross faces a similar situation in Sunderland, but, and here’s the rub, he pulled his club out of that mire by playing positive, attractive football.

Wise buys and a positive attitude turned St Mirren around, what Sunderland fans wouldn’t give to see the same formula applied at the Stadium of Light.

What’s more, it appears that Ross, like Sunderland’s new owners, wants to get his hands dirty.

He loves controlling all things football and is a stickler for detail who believes in giving the youngsters a chance to shine.

Sunderland is desperate for a new beginning, and Jack looks like the perfect lad to bring it. Good luck.
