Embleton wants to stand out and targets more game time
Elliot Embleton is determined to catch the eye of new boss Jack Ross this preseason with the promising youngster targeting more first team football.
The England youth international made his Black Cats debut last season and he is keen to build on his three sub appearances for the club so far.
The 19-year-old made his home debut on the final day of the campaign, the 3-0 win over Wolves, and having had a taste for it, he wants more in League One next season.
The Sunderland squad return to training at the Academy of Light on June 22.
“As with all the young players, it’s going to be an important pre-season for me,” said Embleton.
“I’ve played a lot of football in the past two years with the Under-23s, the first team and with England, but after recharging I’ll be ready to go from day one.”
Embleton enjoyed an impressive season with the club’s Under-23s and made his first-team debut in the goalless draw with Wolves in December.
Having regularly trained and travelled with the first team squad under Chris Coleman, Embleton was also a late sub in the FA Cup defeat to Middlesbrough in January.
Embleton added: “Nothing beats playing at the Stadium of Light, but to do it with the first team was something special.
“I love playing there so to do it in front of the home fans, who got behind us throughout the game, was something else.
“It was a great experience and I’m ready for more.”
