TOMORROW’S SUNDAY

-

Keeping God first requires faith in a busy world demanding attention and offering many distractions.

Faith says I rely on God’s supernatural power to take over where my natural abilities end. Faith sets goals that are higher than I can reach, otherwise why should I need God? Faith is a confession that I am limited but God is unlimited, which is why I must learn humility.

Grace and pride are spiritual enemies. Pride demands God’s blessings based on my merit, real or imagined but grace will not deal with God on the basis of good or bad in me, only on the basis of who God is. Humility therefore does not earn the grace of God but positions me to receive the gift He freely gives. Humility by which God measures our lives is consistent with how precious we are to Him, and His desire for our lives to bring Him glory.

Within the early Methodist church about 14 years after John Wesley died, a man called Adam Clark, who was a preacher and co-worker of John Wesley, was elected three times as president of the Methodist conference beginning from 1805. This man was truly ablaze for God, he mastered 20 languages and his ambition was to use all his time for the glory of God.

While others slept or spent their time casually, he studied and prayed and worked on his eight-part commentary that took 27 years to complete. Historical records says that the first time they elected him, he felt so unworthy ministers had to physically carry him on to the platform to put him in the president’s chair. But once he was there, he was

God has already proved His love to us in numerous ways but we have a tendency to take it for granted. The humble woman or man feels compelled to be grateful when God blesses and rewards them that they feel like telling everyone of His goodness. To be humble is to be constantly aware of our indebtedness to God - how can anyone repay Calvary love?

Let’s ask God today for grace to be humble. The greater our humility, thegreaterourworth in God’s eyes and the more He can use us for His glory.
