Richardson glad to get off the mark

Durham’s Michael Richardson is a relieved man after his team secured their first Royal London One-Day Cup win of the season, via the Duckworth/Lewis method.

Richardson said after Durham’s victory at Roseworth Terrace, Gosforth: “It was a great win to get off the mark.

“Cricket’s a funny game we’ve gone full circle, we were very frustrated not to chase 200 to beat them last year. It’s a funny game.

“It’s historically a difficult ground to bat first on. Often

wickets have fallen right at the start of the innings.

“We actually played that stage relatively well. We thought we got through the difficult period, but when we tried to kick on we lost wickets at important times. We didn’t quite get to where we wanted to be.”

On his dismissal for 64 to Brett D’Oliveira: “I was a bit disappointed in the execution of the shot.

“I either should have tried to hit the ball for six or really made sure that i got it squarer than what I did.

“I hit it straight to the field – it was quite a good catch in the end, but I was disappointed because of the size of the ground.

“There was still a lot of hard work ahead. Even D’Oliveira who bowled the delivery said I shouldn’t be getting out to that.

“So from that standpoint I was disappointed about missing out on a hundred. It seems a long way away now that we have the win.”

“The early wickets in the Worcestershire innings by definition was the crucial

period.

“I think the bowlers have bowled without a lot of luck in the opening three games. I think they may have got it.

“We were aware of the Duckworth/Lewis, even though this is a club ground there scoreboards are amazing.

“So the Duckworth/Lewis was on there from the word go. We were aware of the score and of the rain to come.

“Usually, that plays into the hands of the batting team, but then they lost crucial wickets.”
