Sunderland brings community to the races

-

Sunderland will bring a “great sense of community” to The Tall Ships Races, a senior sailing official has said,

The comment came from Paul Bishop, Race Director of Sail Training International which spearheads The Tall Ships Races.

He said: “Many factors need to be considered when selecting ports and planning a Tall Ships Race series and many people are brought into the process to bring in their expertise, knowledge and judgment.

“So, we are confident the fine cities that have been chosen will deliver high quality events with excellent support for sail training. Sunderland will bring a great sense of community to the event.”

Sunderland hosts the ships from Wednesday, July 11, to Saturday, July 14.

Then, the ships begin the race itself at 8pm on July 14 to sail to Esbjerg in Denmark where they will stay from July 18 to July 21.

The third port in this year’s event is Stavanger in Norway and the ships will be there from July 26 to July 19.

And the last port to host the races is Harlingen in Holland which welcomes the ships from August 3 to August 6.

We would love to hear from people who will be playing a part in the races.

Are you planning to do anything special, or attend one of the events, or perhaps you have seen the ships in the past?
