ASHES THEFT HEARTBREAK

Callous thieves steal women’ s memento of her late dad after ransacking home–

- The Rev Chantal Noppen, Team Vicar, Parish of North Wearside

I used to have a colleague who talked about ‘putting on your Kingdom glasses’ and I’ve been thinking a lot about this recently, especially in the wake of Bishop Michael Curry’s rousing Royal Wedding sermon and his core message; that ‘love is the way’ and that there’s a power in love so immense it can change the world.

It’s not a sermon that’s never been preached before.

Preachers across the world will have said very similar things, many many times, yet this time something was different, and the eyes of the world were watching.

Two weeks later, people are still talking about the sermon, hashtagging, memeing, discussing and debating it. That’s pretty cool.

But what do we do about it? How do we harness the power of love?

We put on our Kingdom glasses and we take the decision to actively look for signs of God, and of good, around us.

Choosing to dig a little deeper into what’s going on in our neighbourhood, to listen a little harder to each other, and care a little more. Because when we actively seek signs of God, looking for the good in the world, living lives led by love, rather than fear and hate; everything changes.

Life will still be hard, of course it will, but we have a choice in how we look at it, and how we live it.

And if we want to change it up, I believe we can. So, what’s the world you want to see?
