John Stones: Again largely composed in possession but often performed as though on the brink of an error. 6.

Gary Cahill: May have secured his starting place when he complemented an encouraging performance by heading England in front. 8. Ashley Young: Exposed by Tyronne Ebuehi’s pace during the second half which could damage his pursuit of a starting place. 6.

Eric Dier: Sent a header just wide at 2-1 when Nigeria were in the ascendancy. 6.

Raheem Sterling: Wasted goalscoring chances but posed a consistent attacking threat and found Harry Kane for the second goal. 7. Jesse Lingard: Lively and unfortunate not to score when forcing Francis Uzoho into a diving save with his close-range effort midway through the first half. 7. Harry Kane: Played with confidence and intent and deserved the goal he scored shortly before half-time. 8. Substitutions: Ruben Loftus-Cheek (for Lingard, 67mins): Had too little time to influence an increasingly disjointed game. 5.
