It was a brilliant day of sport yesterday for Easington Colliery Primary School. Firstly, Year 4 children attended a Mini Tennis qualifying event at Peterlee Leisure Centre. Playing singles against five other schools, the children won 20 difficult games out of 20 and went through to the finals. Then, there was an amazing performance by a mixture of Year 6 boys and girls at Blackhall Community Centre. In between revision sessions in the holding area, they managed to wow the 350-plus audience with their dance routine and even included additional props to increase the difficulty. Congratulations to all the talented young people involved in these events. At the end of May they played in the Finals of the Mini Tennis tournament. The standard of play was amazing from the start and Easington Colliery held a slender lead going into the final match. With the last match level at 6-6, they stayed calm and won the final point and take the trophy. All four children will now compete in the School Games this summer. Easington Academy girls had a fantastic time at Wembley watching the SSE Women’s FA Cup Final. Before the game, students visited the fan zone to show off their skills in a 1 v 1 cage. Bridie in Year 7 was then invited on stage to show off her skills to the crowd alongside the European female freestyling champion, Aguska Mnich. The girls then made their way to the stadium to find they had some of the best seats in the house, a fantastic opportunity. He has won the backing of his employer, and all 21 Co-ops in Durham are holding a monthly Debra charity day. If he reaches his £10,000 fundraising total this year through the London Marathon, he and his family and friends will have made £20,000 for the charity in total. In 2016 Mark and his cousin Paul Buckworth completed the Yorkshire Three Peaks, and took their fundraising for the year to more than £5,000 by taking part in the Redcar Boxing Day Dip. Last August the pair did the National Three Peaks. Mark is now featured on the National advertising for Debra UK he’s done so much for the charity. If you would like to help him, pop in store where you will find collection tins at the till. A Summer Afternoon Tea event will be held in St Mary’s Church hall on Sunday from 3pm-5pm.
