@Stephen40599877: Gerrin!!! Just need rid of cattermole. They were alright a few seasons ago but have been no good for the last few. Sunderland will only be better with the old guard gone! @Jacquelinemcde2: Good luck Jo’s a true professional.

@HodgeSAFC: Personally I’d have kept him, but you can see why Ross has gone this route. O’Shea a very experienced senior pro who commands a lot of influence in the dressing room and around the club, while Ross now needs to establish his own leadership culture. Fresh start all round. #SAFC @KarlLaw51833701: Champion, hopefully others to follow him out of safc

@patrickgsport: To be fair to John O’Shea, I don’t think he’s actually lost his ability to play football (like some do), it’s that everything that he had going for him physically (strength, the ability to run and jump) is long gone. It’s why he would sometimes play well in a back three

@ChrisCo02672524: There’s no way JOS has the legs to play week in week out mind. Good leader in the dressing room though.

@callumbeddz: Goodbye John O’Shea. Would have liked one more year from you but wasn’t to be. Let’s now have a new voice as captain.

@Ridderz86: Good luck to John o’shea. Great pro. Important we have a fresh start and the includes the leaders at the club.

@SAFCL1: Gutted O’shea is off but Ross needs to build his own team. Absolutely essential that we bring in a couple of experienced heads though. Assuming (and hoping) that Cattermole will be next out the door we’ll be left with kids, Steele and Rodwell
