Barnsley to put faith in German boss
Barnsley, relegated to League One alonside Sunderland, are ready to unveil their new manager today.
Little-known German coach Daniel Stendel is expected to sign a two-year contract to take over from the sacked Jose Morais at Oakwell, reports the Sheffield Star.
The 44-year-old former Hannover 96 boss is understood to have beaten a host of candidates for the Barnsley job, with the target of an instant return to the Championship.
Stendel was appointed head coach of Hannover in April 2016, but lasted just 28 games in charges and was sacked less than a year later, in March 2017, despite an impressive record of 15 wins and seven draws.
It is a second successive left-field appointment, following the decision to turn to Morais last season, after Paul Heckingbottom left to take charge at Leeds. League Two club Carlisle United have named John Sheridan as their new boss. The 53-yearold, who left Fleetwood after leading them to League One safety last season, replaces Keith Curle. Sheridan, formerly boss of Oldham, Plymouth and Notts County, said: “There are challenges for the club, but I’m going to face them head on. I have ambition, vision and want to establish a strong DNA within the football club.”
Peterborough and Ireland midfielder Chris Forrester has joined Aberdeen on a three-year contract. Dons boss Derek McInnes said: “Chris can play in a variety of positions, but he handles the ball extremely well and he will bring us flexibility in midfield.
