Wagner thrilled to capture ‘quick-thinking’ Egypt winger
HuddersfieldTownbossDavid Wagner is delighted with the signing of World Cup winger Ramadan Sobhi to boost the Terriers’ bid to secure a third successive Premier League season.
The 21-year-old (pictured) flew in from Egypt’s World Cup training camp in Italy to complete the move, penning a three-year deal after leaving relegated Stoke City for an undisclosed fee.
Wagner enthused: “He’s a real talent and has achieved a lot for a player who is only 21 years old.
“He already has a lot of the qualities that we look for in our Terriers Identity.
“He’s skilful, direct and very quick-thinking. He still has a lot of space to improve too, which is very exciting.” Sobhi, capped 20 times by Egypt, made 40 Premier League appearances for Stoke, who signed him from Egyptian club Al Ahly in July 2016. Sobhi, who can play on either flank or behind the striker, is Huddersfield’s second summer signing since they survived their first season back in the top flight for 45 years.
The Terriers turned defender Terence Kongolo’s season-long loan from Monaco into a permanent deal for a club record transfer fee earlier this month.
Wolves have begun strengthening their squad ahead of their Premier League return by signing Benfica forward Raul Jimenez.
The 27-year-old Mexico frontman, with 14 goals in 62 internationals, will move to Molineux on a seasonlong loan subject to him obtaining a work permit and international clearance.
He scored 31 times in 120 appearances for Benfica, averaging a goal or assist every 75 minutes in last season’s Primeira Liga-winning campaign.
Manchester City have named Barnsley youth boss Paul Harsley as the new coach of their elite development squad.
The 40-year-old succeeds Simon Davies, who has moved to the position of head of coaching Under-13s to U23s.
