Rowett hails Afobe swoop

New Stoke City boss Gary Rowett is thrilled to have captured Wolves striker Benik Afobe to boost the Potters’ Championship promotion ambitions.

The 25-yearold only completed a permanent switch to Wolves earlier this month after playing for them on loan from Bournemouth in the second half of last season’s Championship title-winning campaign, scoring six times.

Rowett said: “If there’s one signing you want to make to get you out of the Championship, Benik is that kind of player.”

Afobe added: “The manager is probably the main reason why I’m signing. He’s very ambitious; he’s got a project going on here and I want to be a big part of it.”
