An aspiring model will be flying the flag for Sunderland on the national stage after winning a competition crown.

Georgia Mordey, 19, from Washington, won this year’s Top Model of Sunderland contest, held at the Marriott Hotel in Seaburn, after impressing judges with her stage presence. After winning the local heat, Georgia is now preparing to compete in the Supermodel England final later this year.

Speaking about her win, Georgia, who works for Jennings Motor Group, said: “It was an amazing experience and I never expected them to call my name out.

“I’ve been competing in competitions like this for three years, but have never placed before, so to come first, in something as prestigious as this, is amazing.

“I’m looking forward to a busy year ahead of charity and fashion events and, of course, preparing for the finals.”

The annual competition raised £7,500 for the Foundation of Light charity, with the contestants taking part in various charity events, raffles, sponsored sky dives and abseiling to raise the funds.

The black-tie event included four catwalk rounds: jeans and T-shirt, personal style, a collection from Brogan’s Closet and evening wear. Judges included: Top Model of Sunderland 2016 Jade Bambrough; Top Model of Sunderland 2017 Rachael Dawson; Brogan Hindmarsh from Brogan’s Closet; Cherie Lauder from the Foundation of Light and Alexandra Devine, the director of Supermodel England.

Ailish Shaw, director of Top Model of Sunderland, said: “The night was a huge success and it was fantastic to see the girls grow in confidence and form great friendships.

“I’m really excited to see how Georgia’s year as Top Model of Sunderland 2018 will unfold, especially as she prepares for the Supermodel England national final later this year.

“She will be following in the footsteps of Rachael Dawson who went on to win World Supermodel England and we have no doubt that Georgia will put 100% into the competition and will make full use of her new title.”
