Sunderland RCA have completed the double signing of forwards Mark Davison and Alex Ramshaw as they look to build on last season’s success.

The Meadow Park side finished the campaign strongly, ending the season in fourth place in the Northern League Division One table.

RCA boss Martin Swales has been working hard over the summer to add a couple of new faces to his squad as well as retaining last season’s players.

And he is delighted to add Davison and Ramshaw to his set-up, particularly as they offer a mix of youth and experience.

Davison has played in the Northern League for a number of years, and moves to RCA from Morpeth, while Ramshaw was at Seaham Red Star last season.

Swales said: “I’ve tried to sign Mark Davison numerous times, from when I was at Bishop Auckland and then here at RCA, but it’s just never happened.

“He didn’t play as much at Morpeth last season but we expect him to have a key role for us.

“He likes to get on the end of crosses and we put lots of balls into the box.

“We’ve also got Nathan O’Neill who got 29 goals for us last season so with those two up front for us, I expect goals. They are both big, powerful lads and can cause defences problems.

“There were a few clubs sniffing around Adam so I’m delighted to have signed him. He’s only 19 years old but he’s very quick and exciting.

“We played against Seaham last season and he impressed me, so I made a note and then put seven days notice in for him, but he decided to stay there.

“I’m glad we’ve got him now, though. He’s quick, can play on the right or the left.”

Swales doesn’t expect to add further to his squad before the season starts, having managed to keep hold of all of his players from last term.

He added: “Every single lad has re-signed, which is great. Some had good offers from other clubs but I’m happy we’ve got the same squad in place.

“I’m not one for chopping and changing. And it’s nice to get the squad in place in time for pre-season.”

RCA returned to training last night ahead of a pre-season schedule that includes a home game at Meadow Park against Sunderland Under23s on Tuesday, July 10 (7pm kick-off ).
