South Hylton A back in title race after rediscover­ing form

South Hylton A are back in the driving seat to claim the Danby Autos Sunderland Snooker League title, despite a rocky couple of weeks.

However, this week’s results didn’t get off to the best start when South Hylton travelled to Biddick B, with Steven Thompson winning the first frame.

Tommy Rutter levelled the match before Peter Mills beat Gavin Dixon.

Paul Cobb potted well to win the fourth frame, before Norman Leslie/Graham Rutland pulled one back for Hylton to reduce the defeat to 3-2.

In a re-arranged match that South Hylton A now had to win, saw Steels come to town.

Leslie, Adam Smith, Thompson and Rutland put Hylton in total control from the off. Smith, when paired with Thompson, eased Hylton to the whitewash and now only need two points to seal the title.

Second placed Boldon CA where looking to make some ground on the leaders, but instead faltered away at Seaham Conservati­ves A.

Gary Stockton got Seaham Conservati­ves A off to the perfect, but Michael Grieveson levelled .

Michael Monaghan moved Seaham back into the lead, but John Smith won a close fourth frame against Les Pinder.

Paul Lauder/Stockton won Seaham the match when beating Graeme Ablett/Michael Grieveson on the final black for the 3-2 win.

Biddick A travelled to South Hylton B and started well with Steven Tate winning the first frame.

Breaks of 22, 23 and 31 saw Bobby Boyce quickly level the match, before David Adamson moved Biddick back into the lead.

John Harrison again lev- elled the match, with Boyce/ Paul Buckley winning the pairs frame against Graham Smith/ Steven Tate for the 3-2 win.

A 27 break by Aaron Duncan got basement side Pennywell Comrades B off to a good start at home to Glendale.

Anthony Longstaff increased the lead before a 20 break helped John Wiseman win the third frame.

Chris Hallett saw off Paul Atkinson, before Wiseman/ Paul Atkinson won the pairs beating Duncan/Longstaff 5113 to reduce the defeat to 3-2.

Elsewhere in the league, Pennywell Comrades A beat Steels 4-1, Mill View defeated Lumley 3-2, Seaham Conservati­ves B saw off The Victory 4-1 and Hetton Centre beat Murton Officials 4-1.
