Warwicks in control at Riverside

-

Durham are up against it going in to the final day of their Specsavers County Championship Division Two clash with Warwickshire at the Emirates Riverside.

The home side were unable to kick on from their promising start at the end of day two.

Early wickets held back their progress, and although Gareth Harte (with a patient 45 off 126 balls) and the lower order put forward a decent effort they were only able to put 297 on the board, in reply to 424 as Oliver HannonDalby finished with figures of 4-61.

Ryan Pringle made a useful 34, while Nathan Rimmington weighed in with 32.

Matt Salisbury troubled the Warwickshire batting line-up second time around, claiming three wickets as Jon Lewis’ smen pressed for a response.

However, another composed half-century from Jonathan Trott took the game away from Durham, with the visitors boasting a lead of 279.

Durham captain Paul Collingwood said: “We had a little bit of a tail-end wag at the end. Jonathan Trott is the one person that has put Warwickshire ahead of the game. Thankfully we got him out, but it’s going to take an exceptional effort for us to get a result out of this match.

“Matt Salisbury has been very impressive since he has come to the club.

“He keeps things very simple. He’s got a good energy and a nice action.

“If you tend to put the ball in the right areas you get rewards and that’s exactly what he has done.”
