AIRSHOW PROGRAMME REVEALED
PROGRAMME FOR 30TH YEAR OF EVENT ANNOUNCED
We are just weeks away from the 30th year of the Sunderland Airshow – and organisers have announced an exciting programme of live music to run throughout the weekend.
Taking place on July 27, 28 and 29, the show will launch on the Friday night with a musical journey spanning the event’s 30-year history.
And for the first time, an evening programme for the Saturday of the airshow has been announced, featuring a range of exciting live music acts.
Status Quo tribute act The Quo Experience will get crowds rocking all over the world as the last trails of Red Arrow smoke leaves the sky.
Guests will then take a trip through the world of disco with The Real Thing set to keep the celebration flowing.
Sunderland City Council Cabinet Member for Communities and Culture, Councillor John Kelly said: “This is the 30th year of the Sunderland Airshow and we want to make it an occasion for everyone to remember, music will play a big part in the celebrations.
“Our Friday launch night has become increasingly popular over the years, and we have extended the music programme over the weekend to reflect that and offer our visitors even more.
“While, as always, there will be some of the world’s finest pilots, aircraft and display teams taking to the skies above Sundertand’s award -winning seafront, there is also a full programme of ground attractions, events and family activities stretching from Seaburn along to Bede’s Cross and Roker Park for visitors to enjoy.
He added: “There really is something for everyone to enjoy, from a new arena in Recreation Park hosting performances and displays, to a full military village along the seafront and a larger selection of food and entertainment including the Summer Village, over the three days of the event.
One of the biggest events in the city’s calendar, Sun- derland Airshow brings hunderds of thousands of visitors to the region – and businesses, shops, pubs, cafes and restaurants are pulling out all the stops to welcome guests.
Highlights of this year’s programme includes live music at Cliffe Park throughout the weekend, an arena of acts at Recreation Park and a military village at Bede’s Cross.
Sunderland City Council Head of Events, Victoria French said “We’re doing everything we can again to encourage local traders to play an ever bigger role in this year’s event, and add to the range of goods and services they already provide to their more regular customers.
“The airshow weekend is a fantastic opportunity to showcase what they have to offer, and hopefully attract more people back into their businesses and back to the seafront.
“The three-day event at our award winning seafront will complement the excellent range of existing attractions which are there all year round, with great places to shop, eat, drink and relax with a fantastic range of restaurants, cafes, bars and shops for visitors to enjoy.”
