Cats seal double deal
Cats boss says new signing is eager to prove his worth
Jack Ross says Dylan McGeouch is ‘desperate to prove how good he is’ after the midfielder completed his move to Sunderland.
The Black Cats have beaten a number of clubs to sign the 25-year-old, including Aberdeen.
McGeouch was a key player in the Hibernian team that finished fourth on their return to the Scottish Premiership last season.
His stellar form culminated in international recognition and having played on loan at Coventry City earlier in his career, he arrives with some League One experience.
Ross said: “Dylan has been really good for Hibernian and that’s culminated in him earning international recognition.
“There were a lot of teams interested in him because he’s at a good stage in his career and he’s absolutely desperate to come down to England and show people how good a player he is.
“The fans will like him because he’s got a lot of quality.”
McGeouch will now travel to Portugal to join up with his new team-mates.
Meanwhile, Reece James become Sunderland’s sixth summer signing yesterday.
The former Wigan and Manchester United man has signed a one-year deal and will offer competition in the full-back department.
James played 28 games last season as Wigan won the League One title and Jack Ross believes his attacking prowess will be vital.
“Reece played a big part in Wigan’s promotion last year and he has good pedigree from his time with Manchester United earlier in his career,” Ross said.
“He’s another new signing who is at a good age, and he’s very good in the final third which will be a big for us next season as we try to get our full-backs high up the park.
“He’s another good addition and I think it’s exciting to see that we’re trying to build something.”
Sunderland had looked into a deal for Manchester United’s Cameron Borthwick-Jackson but James fits into Ross’ desire for players with strong Football League experience.
The Black Cats boss said last week that he expects to make around 8-10 signings this summer, depending on outgoings.
James is also joining the pre-season training camp in Portugal.
