KRISTIAN INSPIRES QUICKFIRE TRIUMPH

RYHOPE DEMOLISH SILKSWORTH IN DURHAM CRICKET LEAGUE FIFTEENS DERBY

Ryhope eased to a ninewicket derby triumph at old rivals Silksworth in Group Four of the Readers Durham Cricket League Fifteens competitio­n on Friday night.

With league games postponed on Saturday to avoid a clash with England’s football World Cup quarterfin­al against Sweden, the 15-over competitio­n took centre stage over the weekend.

Ryhope, beaten in their sectional opener, were comfortabl­e winners at Silksworth,with the match only lasting 19.3 overs.

The hosts were dismissed for 61 in 14 overs, with only Ian Laverick (16) and Greg Davison (10) reaching double figures.

Kristian Summerside bagged 3-11 in his three overs, while James Summerside took 2-21 and Graham Pickering 2-11.

Matthew Kirtley’s unbeaten 27, with five fours, hurried Ryhope home in 5.3 overs, with Dan Blackman adding 15 and Kristian Summerside 13 not out.

Durham City were good winners against Mainsforth.

Tom Balkwill hit 65 and Nick Howe added 34 as City made 144-6, with Ryan Dawson taking 2-21.

Mainsforth struggled to 88-8 in reply as City’s bowlers held sway. Rob Macdonald grabbed 3-15 and May took 3-12, with Lewis Jowett topscoring on 28.

Tudhoe bagged their second win, crushing Littletown by 10 wickets.

Matt Dench fired 42 off 20 balls, with five fours and threw sixes, and Dan Pearson had four fours and a six in 33 as Littletown posted 111-6, with Roshan Jayatissa taking 2-24.

Ian Grainger (61no, with six fours and four sixes) then steered Tudhoe home in 9.4 overs, alongside Jayatissa (50no, with three fours and four sixes).

Peterlee secured their second win in the first two games in Group Two, defeating Dawdon by 17 runs.

Zachary McCaskie hit 11 fours and three sixes in a 42-ball 80 to lead Peterlee to 133-4, with Jamie Greenwood taking 2-27.

The first four Dawdon batsmen all topped 20, but they fell short on 116-5. Steven Gale and James Dent each made 22, Ryan Consitt 21 and Faz Hussain 25, while McCaskie took 2-22.

Murton lost by 54 runs to Easington (135-6) when they were bowl4ed out for 81 as Dane Wilson grabbed 3-17 and Josh Broom bagged 4-9.

Seaham Park beat Horden by 19 runs when they restricted their hosts to 133-4.

Liam Irving (42) and Scott Birks (36) led Horden’s reply, backed by JP Meade (23) and Lewis Broom (22), with Virat Singh taking 2-21, but Horden fell 20 short of victory.

Park earlier reached 1527, inspired by Singh’s 72 off 43 balls, with 10 fours and a six. Meade grabbed 2-13 in vain.

Bill Quay made it two wins out of two in Group One, thanks to a 60-run success against visitors Hylton.

Jarod Van Blerk led the way with six fours and a six in 39 as Quay posted a daunting 162-6 in their 15 overs.

Chris Malley (26no), Michael Orridge (26, with two fours and three sixes) and former Hylton batsman Alan Mustard (24, with three fours and a six) added to the visitors’ problems.

Muhammad Shahid was the pick of the Hylton bowlers, taking 3-34, while Scott Brettell took 1-25 and Kit Allan sir 1-22.

Hylton’s openers gave the away side hope, with Lee Jackson firing three fours and three sixes in 35, while Marlon Black had two maximums in his knock of 20.

But no other batsman managed to reach double figures and they were dismissed for 102 in 12.2 overs. Liam Brophy plundered 4-20, with White taking 3-8 and Adam Rayner 3-18.

Philadelph­ia succumbed to a second defeat, beaten by six wickets at Marsden.

Shaun Smith (22) and Shaun Hauxwell (15) gave the visitors a bright start, but Phili needed Matthew Noble’s 20-ball 38, with a four and three sixes, to reach 119-6.

Steven Neilson took 2-11 and Chris Mann 2-14.

Marsden got home in 12 overs, led by James Sneller’s 45 off 19 balls, with four fours and four sixes, with fellow opener Chris Mann adding five fours and a six in 35. Ryan Little added 17no from 10 balls to see Marsden over the line.

Whiteleas & Harton beat neighbours Boldon CA. Owen Peterson’s 64 not out helped Leas to 125-2, before Karl Bellerby hit 46 in vain as Boldon replied with 106 all out.

Bilawal Iqbal took 3-15 and Ray McRae 3-13, whle Ryan Hale had a hat-trick in his haul of 3-21. In Group Three, Esh Winning outgunned Hunwick by 10 wickets.

Hunwick made 1074, led by Dan Keegan (44) and Chris Pratt (36), with Michael Bussey snaffling 3-20.

Esh won in 11.5 overs, thanks to Stuart Hall (54no, with seven fours and two sixes) and David Lawlor (39no).

Crook won by eight wickets at Ushaw Moor, who posted 107-8, thanks mainly to Dean Storey (21 off nine balls, with three fours and a six) and Steven Milburn (24, with three sixes).

Daniel Doram’s 40no, with four fours and a six, steered Crook home, backed by Stuart Newton (26) and Josh Holmes (27no).
