In praise of caring people

-

On Father’s Day my family took me to Seaham after we have dined for a treat, and after getting the car parked at the northern end of the town we had set off on a walk to somewhere near the town centre where my treat was to take place, but my treat turned out to be anything but! As we crossed one of the narrow roadways into a parking area near the harbour I stubbed my foot against the kerb at the far side and took an almighty tumble on the left side of my head. I am no longer a spring chicken and lay there unable to move until my daughter and granddaughter gently rolled me on to my back to hold cloths to the bleeding areas of my face to try to stem the flow. Within moments we were surrounded by a group of very caring people who rang for medical assistance, provided a fluffy rug to keep me warm, and gave me a glass of water, complete with straw, so that I could have a drink despite being laid flat. I was later given medical assistance where I lay and in the medic’s car that for parked nearby when it turned up.

I was deeply touched by the reaction of the people nearby, and would like to thank each and every one of them; they did Seaham proud.

The lady who provided the rug even left the scene before I was able to return it to her, and I am hoping that she might see this letter and contact me, so that I can return her property to her after I have had it cleaned. R Brownson, Belmont
