Windbag Trump’s air shot
It came as no surprise to find that the inflatable baby Trump floating above London was nowhere near as controversial as the real thing.
And when it came to hot air, the US President easily had the most during his whistlestop visit to these shores.
It could matter less to the good people of Sunderland, but his comments on Brexit had our readers beating their keyboards in anger.
Some took to our Facebook page to lambast the President, others backed him. For the record, the President was scathing of the PM in an interview with The Sun.
On her Brexit negotiations, he said: “I would have done it much differently. I actually told Theresa May how to do it but she didn’t agree, she didn’t listen to me. She wanted to go a different route. She should negotiate the best way she knows how. But it is too bad what is going on.”
As far as he was concerned, the move would “kill” any trade deal with the US. As scathing a comment on the Prime Minister and her Brexit plans you couldn’t hear. But to have them coming from the President on the day of his meeting with Mrs May, spoke volumes.
Or did it? A few hours later, Mr Trump emerged with Mrs May to insist the US-UK relationship is “the highest level of special.”
And he added that Brexit was an “incredible opportunity” and “whatever” the UK did after it left the EU was “OK with me”.
A baffling about-turn that leaves us all none the wiser on an important issue to us all.
What’s the difference between Donald Trump and the baby Trump blimp?
One’s an overinflated freaky-looking bag of hot air ... the other’s a balloon.
