Tributes flood in for brave teen Josie
Tributes have been flooding in to a brave Sunderland teenager who has lost her battle with cancer.
Josie King, 15, from Thorney Close, was diagnosed with Ewing’s sarcoma in August 2016 after discovering a lump on her hip.
Her family were told she was in remission in May last year following surgery and gruelling chemotherapy.
But she admitted that she still felt ill, and tests later confirmed her fears.
The brave youngster died last Thursday, and tributes have come pouring in since we reported the sad news.
Maria Agnew said: “Such a beautiful girl, inside and out. Sending love and thoughts to her family she was a credit to them.”
Lea Dawn Fahy added: “So, so sad. Life is very cruel sometimes. So young to be taken from her family and friends. Can’t believe there is no cure for this horrible disease with the technology available for research.”
Jennifer Patterson said: “Thoughts are with Josie’s family at this very sad time. Josie was a brave girl and an inspiration to many. God bless.”
Neil Holyoak added: “Life’s really cruel at times, so sad, she’s only a bairn, God bless her.”
Wendy Clarkson wrote: “Beautiful, brave, inspiring young lady. My thoughts to the family.”
Eleanor Wright also send her condolences to Josie’s family, writing: “Thinking of all the family at this sad time.”
Michelle Tosh said: “R.I.P. beautiful girl, gone too soon. Such a brave girl,” while Jean Thurlbeck added: “Heartbreaking, my thoughts are with her family at this sad time, R.I.P. Josie.”
Josie received a Bradley Lowery Child of Courage award - named in honour of her friend - at this year’s Best of Wearside celebration run by the Echo.
And people were quick to comment on the bravery she showed during her fight against the disease.
Lesley Ann Ridgewell called her “a beautiful, strong and inspirational young lady”, adding: “Rest in peace dear Josie.”
Veronica Urwin wrote “R.I.P. Josie you beautiful little fighter,” and Sharon Brooke commented: “So sorry for your loss. My thoughts are with Josie’s family and friends.”
Susan Clark said: “Always had a huge beautiful smile. R.I.P. beautiful.”
Charlie Brown added: “R.I.P Josie. Shine on like the brightest star. My thoughts are with your family and friends.”
Before her illness took hold Josie was a keen boxer, starting at Lambton Street before moving on to Houghton Boxing Club.
Many people recognised her love of the sport in their tributes. Maureen BrownCanavan said: “Box on Josie. Rest in peace free from pain xxx.”
