Dembele worry for Celtic boss Rodgers

-

Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers hopes that striker Moussa Dembele’s tight leg is not a cause for concern.

The French star’s brace in last night’s 3-0 home win over Alashkert (6-0 on aggregate) helped set up a Champions League second qualifying tie against Rosenborg.

Celtic defender Jozo Simunovic was red-carded for a high challenge early on, while Dembele went straight up the tunnel in the 65th minute after being replaced.

Rodgers said: “He was tight at the back of his legs so we will need to assess that. He is as fit as he has been since I’ve been here at this stage of the season so hope it was just a tightness and he will be OK.”

Former Sunderland striker Nicklas Bendtner coolly converted a stoppagetime penalty to see Norwegians Rosenborg past Icelandic side Valur 3-2 on aggregate. Joel Grant, Ryan Edwards and Gregg Wylde struck as League One Plymouth won 3-0 at non-league Bideford, while Peterborough lost 1-0 to Portuguese side Maritimo.

Posh boss Steve Evans said: “We were so strong offensively in the first half we should have been two or three goals ahead.”

Hull City have signed Sheffield United keeper George Long on a three-year contract, for an undisclosed fee.
