JACK, ROBBIE INSPIRE ASHBROOKE U18S’ WIN

SUNDERLAND SINK WHITBURN BY EIGHT WICKETS IN ENTERTAINI­NG UNDER-18 DERBY

Sunderland beat visitors Whitburn by eight wickets in the Durham Cricket Board Under-18 League’s Second Division .

The Villagers reached 100-3 in their 20 overs, inspired by Ben Markham’s 68 not out, featuring three fours and four sixes. Ben Kennedy added 12 as Joe Defty and Jamie Hair took wickets.

Jack Johnson (49no, with five fours) and Robbie Potts (48no, with four fours and a six) eased the Ashbrooke lads to victory in 18 overs. Sophie Jacobson and Amy Hearn took wickets as Sunderland slipped to 7-2 early on.

Ryhope enjoyed a ninewicket derby win over Seaham Park.

Park were dismissed for 54 in 15.5 overs, with only O’Connor (16) getting into double figures as Owen Vaughan (4-2) and Luke Bell (3-11) starred with the ball.

Graham Pickering took 2-11 and Spencer White 1-4.

Jake Liddle then hit five fours and two sixes in an unbeaten 17-ball 40 to guide Ryhope into top spot.

In the Under-15 League, Hetton Lyons defeated Washington by 82 runs to sit third in the First Division table.

Ryan O’Connor (53, with 10 fours), Josh Bell (39, with five fours), Taylor Vout (22no), Luke Husband (21) and Oliver Watt (14no) got Lyons to 172-3, with Kieran Bennett and Kellsey Potter striking.

Thomas Lander fired five boundaries in 34 for Washington, but they could only make 90-5, with Bennett 24 not out. Husband, Watt, Joe Weightman, Noah Worthy and Robbie Ashcroft all took wickets.

South Shields closed the gap to leaders Chester-le-Street with a 70-run win over Eppleton.

Shields piled up 1655 in 20 overs, led by Jack Hutchinson’s 50 not out. Ben Scott (23), Sameer Awan (18), Alex Thompson (18) and Matthew Sheppard (26no) offered support, with Adam Welch grabbing 3-34.

Jake Pratt hit 29 and Josh Hutchinson 41, but Eppleton struggled to 95-5 in reply.

In Division Two, Ryhope rose to third place following a seven-wicket success against Sacriston.

Alfie McKie (36), James Hannon (19) and Harry Iveson, with six fours and two sixes in 51 not out, helped Sacriston to 115-5, with Johnathan Waterson taking 2-21 and Spencer White 2-15.

Joe Errington (24), Waterson (22), Joseph Cowie (22), White (26no) and Ben Pallas (11no) then steered Ryhope over the line, with two balls to spare. Sam Surtees and Jordan Lumley both struck for Sacriston.

Peterlee and Seaham Harbour conceded to Sunderland and Philadelph­ia respective­ly.

Dawdon and Felling had walkovers in Division Three, following concession­s by Burnmoor and Murton.
