An award-winning Sunderland fundraiser has announced plans for another of her hugely successful charity runs.

Claire Douglas lifted the Sunderland Echo Best of Wearside 2015 Fundraiser of the Year trophy for her efforts and has never stopped since.

Now she’s back on the charity trail once more with her 2018 venture.

This year, the Run 2 Respect event will be held on Sunday, October 28, from 11am at the Silksworth Sports Complex.

Claire said the last time she organised the race in 2017, more than 220 people took part and she is hoping for similar numbers this year.

People can find out more about the 2018 event at the organisation’s Facebook page at Run2respect Sunderland. They can sign up at https:// www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/ run2respect-sunderlandtickets-41922826302.

The cost of taking part is £10 for children and £15 for adults. The entry price includes a T-shirt, medal and goody bag, and Claire is hoping for a bumper response.

She admitted that the best feeling of them all was that of “seeing so many people coming together, and people actually competing”.

Claire is no stranger to fundraising and has been organising charity runs for years.

Back in 2015, she organised Sunderland’s first-ever Poppy Run, which had the biggest response of any run of its kind in the country.

She continued to fundraise and gathered in more than £50,000 for worthy causes.

It’s not just others that she encourages to run. She raised £2,300 from tackling the London Marathon herself.

Numerous causes have benefited from her organising powers and this year promises to be no different.

The 5k event for 2018 is described as a “Family Fun Run/walk/crawl for all ages and abilities to raise funds and awareness for forces charities.”

And when asked why she keeps on backing worthy causes by organising events, Claire said: “It keeps me busy and I do like to back the forces.”
