The good and bad at hotel

-

On June 29, 2018, I and other friends returned from what, I swear, will be my very last visit to Fenix Hotel in Sunny Beach, Bulgaria.

I first visited this hotel in 2014, and thought I’d just picked an unlucky period.

In 2017 we returned to the same hotel to find nothing changed, as I pointed out to Bulgaria office in London.

By 2018, I figured the problems should be ironed out, Wrong, big time.

This time I’ve repeated my comments on this hotel, namely: 1. Staff in restaurant always look like they are in jail. 2. Fruit in restaurant better served whole, not in pieces. Butter served in bowls of water – awkward, and very messy. Jam etc served in large bowls. 3. Most hotels service/sell drinks at meals, Fenix only at breakfast, at dinner you have go for, and buy drinks at the bar, even water. 4. Soup, usually cold, as with most of the meals, hence the need for a microwave.

This brings an old story to mind – Oliver Twist; “Please sir, can I have some more.” Reply (in modern version) “Sure if you can operate the microwave.” Meals are usually the same action. Note – there is always seconds. 5. We stayed 11 days, ice-cream out only three times, so sad for kids, you can buy at bar. 6. World Cup football on all televisions everywhere, Fenix small 23 inch television in the bar. Go out to other bars.

Two huge televisions stand idle in the restaurant, never used. Why? Each year told they are out of order. Are they? Why not repaired for World Cup?

A man in reception did not know of any of these facts. 7. Customers who swim could not find a clock handy, must drip all the to reception or locked restaurant. 8. Lots of hotels help customers by selling English newspapers each day – Fenix! 9. Showers in rooms – perfect, instant hot water any time. 10. 99% of the hotel is perfect in every way – all let down by the restaurant. Shame as the staff work hard. 11. On my last day the head waiter reported me to reception for making sandwiches to take on the plane; I expected to be frogmarched from the hotel then maybe deported.

Once lawbreakers were sent to Australia, now it’s the Fenix. They do not realise food tastes better off the premises than on. Mr J A Stott
