Throughout the summer holidays there are still a number of activities going on in South Hylton Tansy Centre. Bingo continues to meet every Wednesday, starting at 8pm and karate is on every Sunday from 4pm to 5pm. Hannah, ACE Performers, continues with her dance classes most days from 3.15pm to 6.30pm and also on Saturdays from 9.15am- to 3pm. Adult dancing with Ros is on Tuesdays from 5.30pm to 8.30pm and on Thursdays, 6pm to 9.30pm. From Monday, August 13, there are keep-fit activities with Phil, Monday to Friday, 8.30am to 3pm( NB no session on 15th ). South Hylton History Society will meet on August 20, at 7pm. This will be a members’ evening with a theme of Education Through The Years. Final arrangemen­t for the coffee morning, 10am to noon 0n September 1, will be made. The centre will be closed on August 27. Hylton WI will hold its next meeting on Monday, August 13, in South Hylton Workingmen’s Club at 1pm. There will be entertainm­ent by Tak-YeBack and the sales table will be accessorie­s. Final arrangemen­ts will be made for the summer outing to Helmsley and Yorkshire Lavender Farm. A coffee morning will be held in South Hylton Independen­t Methodist Church on Saturday, August 18, from 10am. This will be a free event and a chance to catch up with old and new friends.

Activities are: Carlisle Park in Morpeth, August 27, 10am to 4pm, £4.50 adults and £2.50 children; Gibside, Rowlands Gill, August 28, 10am to 4pm, £8.50 adults and £4.50 children; Summer crafts, August 20, 1.15pm to 2.30pm, £2 per child; Make Summer Mocktails and Fruit Kebabs, August 22, 10.3oam to noon, £2 per child. Eve Ord would like to say a big thank you to all who supported the 40’s night at the Holy Rosary on Friday, July 29. A total of £390 was raised for the Sunderland Branch of MS. Everyone helped to make it a very special evening. The 18th Century Developmen­t of Sunderland Harbour is the title of a talk to be given by local historian Stuart Miller to Sunderland Men’s Probus Club at their next meeting in Ashbrooke Sports Pavilion on Tuesday, August 14, at 10.30am. Refreshmen­ts will be served beforehand, and non members are welcome. Sunderland Cardiac Support Group will meet on Thursday at 6.45pm in The Education Centre, Sunderland Royal Hospital. Geoff Hughes will give an illustrate­d talk on Songs and Stories For Everyone. Afternoon Tea will be served at St Nicholas Church on Saturday, September 1, from 3.30pm to 5pm. The cost is £3 and includes tea, coffee, sandwiches, scones and homemade cake. Money raised is going towards church funds. Sunderland Ladies’ Probus Club will meet on Thursday, August 23, in St John’s Church, Ashbrooke. Guest speaker is Geoff Hughes who will be visiting the club with his talk Famous People Who Made The North East Great. Coffee is served at 10am and the meeting begins at 10.30am. St Nicholas Church will once again be taking part in The Heritage Open Day scheme this year. The church will be open on Friday, September 7, from 2pm to 4pm and Saturday, September 8, from 11am to 3pm. Call in to view and learn more about the wonderful stained glass windows from the volunteers manning the church. There will be a Summer Special at Sunderland Minster for families with children aged from birth to 11 every Tuesday in August, 7, 14, 21 and 28. There will be ‘Living Stones’, food, fun, crafts, games, art, music, stories. Breakfast will be from 9.30am and activities start at 10.15am with lunch from 12.15pm. No charge but donations are welcome. As part of the Big Community Sports Festivals – an afternoon of sports and fun inclusive activities will be held in Barnes Park tomorow. On Wednesday, August 15, at 6.30pm Ewesley Road Ladies’ Fellowship will be having a get together at The Chesters. Sunderland Minster Vintage and Craft Fayre takes place on Saturday, September 1, from 10am to 3pm. Stalls will include knitted items, jewellery, bric-abrac, garden items, exclusive hand crafted greetings
