Get ready for laughs with Roker jokers

COMEDY NIGHT TO BE HELD AT SEAFRONT HOTEL

-

Laughs are in store as the Roker Hotel hosts a comedy night – with a secret headliner.

The name of the main act is being kept under wraps until the night itself, which takes place on Friday, August 24, but it’s been revealed that they’re a regular on Mock the Week and 8 Out Of 10 Cats.

Entitled Jokers at the Roker, the night will be hosted by Sunderland-born comedian Matt Reed, who is a veteran on the comedy scene, travels the country gigging the comedy circuit and is a regular at The Stand in Newcastle.

Matt will be joined on the bill by two comedians who will both perform their own sets; Paul Pirie and the mystery guest to be revealed on the night.

Paul was born and raised in Glasgow and is now one of the biggest Scottish acts in the UK.

The secret headliner act is no stranger to Mock the Week, 8 out 10 Cats, A League of Their Own and the Sarah Millican Show, plus a sell out at Live at the Apollo.

The comedian cannot be named until the night of the event due to management’s request, however, Matt Reed has said: “I’m extremely excited to have confirmed this booking and it’s a huge gig for the city of Sunderland.

“It’s the perfect start to the August bank holiday weekend.”

Jonathan Graham, operations director for Tavistock Hospitality, who own the Roker Hotel, said; “We are incredibly excited for our Jokers at the Roker event and are over the moon to be able to bring this level of talent to Sunderland.

“There are 250 tickets up for grabs, so it’s a quite intimate gig for what these comedians are used to.”

Jonathan says he hopes the comedy night will become a regular event.

He added: “We are hopeful if the gig is a success we will make the event a regular comedy club event, something Sunderland currently doesn’t have.”

Jokers at the Roker is on Friday, August 24.

Booking is essential and tickets can be purchased for £10 from the Roker Hotel reception or call 0191 567 8221 to book. Doors will open from 6.30pm
