Gray night for Ryhope as new boy hits stunner

-

Ryhope CW fell to a 2-0 home defeat against Shildon as on-loan midfielder Keith Graydon marked his Railwaymen debut with the opening goal of the game.

The former Spennymoor Town star only joined Shildon hours before kickoff but his stunning firsthalf strike was enough to put his new side on their way to all three points.

Billy Greulich-Smith added a second in secondhalf injury-time to move his side up to second in the Division One table.

The result leaves Ryhope with just one win from their opening four games of the season.

Dunston UTS moved to the top of the Division One table with an 8-0 home demolition of Whitley Bay.

Liam Brooks, Mark Fitzpatrick and Jack Elliot all hit braces for the hosts and single strikes from Andrew Grant-Soulsby and Scott Heslop rounded a miserable night for Whitley.

Things could have been worse for Andy Gowens side had Dunston striker Fitzpatrick not struck the crossbar with a late penalty.

Guisborough Town progressed to the Preliminary Round of the FA Cup as late goals from Nathan Steel and Steven Roberts gave them a 2-0 win at Newton Aycliffe.

The Priorymen now face an away tie at Northern Counties East club Albion Sports.

Hebburn Town Reserves continued their perfect start to the Wearside League season as they came from behind to secure a 2-1 home win against neighbours Boldon CA.
