Rugby club volunteers are honoured at Mitsubishi awards hosted by Vic Young
Following last year’s Mitsubishi Motors Volunteer of the Year Awards, Vic Young (South Shields) Ltd hosted its second evening to honour nominees from rugby clubs across the North East.
Graeme Holloway of Horden & Peterlee RFU was announced as the finalist, winning a crystal award along with a bottle of Bollinger champagne. Thanks to his efforts, Horden & Peterlee Girls have risen from six players to 44, with U13, U15 and U18 sections. Graeme will attend an awards dinner at Twickenham stadium in September. At the dinner, there will be three overall winners announced who will receive the grand prize of a Mitsubishi vehicle for a year.
Launched in January 2017, over 1,500 volunteers across the country were nominated by fellow club members, players and supporters this year. The Vic Young event was one of many taking place at Mitsubishi Motors dealerships, all in recognition of the hardworking volunteers whose efforts should not go unnoticed.
South Shields’ own Katy DaleyMclean MBE handed out the certificates and fleeces, along with gift cards courtesy of Durham County RFU. Captain of the England Women’s National Rugby Union Team, she led her squad to victory at the Women’s Rugby World Cup in 2014. Katy is one of the most high profile sportswomen in the country and holds the record as the top point scorer for England with 401 in 90 matches.
She also held the England captaincy for more than four years and has received a sensational 99 caps. The awards are part of Mitsubishi Motors Volunteer Recognition Programme – a partnership with England Rugby, providing the opportunity to recognise and reward the volunteers who are a vital part of the rugby community and the game as a whole. The Volunteer Recognition Programme builds on Mitsubishi Motors partnership with England Rugby, supporting the game from grassroots level all the way up to the senior squad.
